This book is a bit of a feel good story of family and every day problems people face in life yet it is also a lot darker than one might think when they pick up this book!
Hearing the back story of Ella and Sebastian is something I enjoyed. When the secret was revealed I was surprised but it made sense and brought the story together for me and overall I did enjoy it enough to consider reading more of this authors work in future.
Down London Road is in a sense a sequel to Samantha Young’s ‘On Dublin Street’ which I have not yet read, the book follows a character who I know to be within the previous book but not the feature character, therefore this meant I could read Down London Road having not read on Dublin street and it didn’t really matter. Although I have been left definitely wanting to read On Dublin Street!
With only one day until the big publication day (Exciting!) and having already made nine stops on the blog tour we have learnt a lot about various characters from the book. Now it’s time to learn a little about Giovanna’s thoughts and experiences that have lead up to her debut novel.
This is a book that gave me a real insight into what life was like in 1950’s London and America, having been born in 1989 and only just scraping by the title of being an 80’s kid I actually wasn’t aware of what a GI bride really was. GI stands for either Government Issue or General Issue and GI bride refers to the latter, it’s British brides of American servicemen during the war.
