Cars 3 fever has been sweeping the nation and we weren’t escaping it, not when we live with a pint sized Lightning McQueen fanatic. No chance.
If it’s Cars, or more specifically Lightning, Little Fox loves it. From his vast collection of die cast cars to his favourite stuffed toy. Lightning McQueen is life to this little boy.
Having been to see the new movie and acquired more cars merchandise on holiday than I thought possible. You can imagine his surprise when the Ultimate Lightning McQueen from Sphero landed on our step! Heck, I know grown men who would be excited to receive one of these. Our boy was amazed!
Now I can’t stress enough that this is not your average toy. Sphero are makers of advanced robotics, and they do it so well. The box alone tells you this isn’t just for the kids, it’s for everyone. I can’t lie, we played with it before the little one whilst he was at nursery. Then we put it back in its box like nothing happened. Parent perks.
The box alone oozes style and class. From the foil block embossed type and combination of gloss & matte laminate, it’s inviting. Leaving you wanting to see what’s inside.
When you first take McQueen out of the box, you’ll notice that he’s attached to his base at the tires using little plastic caps. Just pop those off and you’re good to go.
Lightnings’ eyes are an animated LCD screen so upon opening the screen is covered by a sticker. To charge Lightning you pop out his petrol cap and insert the charging cable. Very clever Sphero!

Having experienced BB-8 from Sphero, previous years must have Christmas toy, I can guarantee you’ll love Lightning just as much, if not more. He is capable of so much more and an all round asset to anyone’s Cars collection.
Little Fox refers to him as his ‘special Lightning’. We don’t allow any unsupervised play with him, although he is robust and tough, he’s been crashed a lot! I just can’t allow a 2-year-old to roam free with him. He’d be in the bath otherwise!
One of our favorite modes is Drive In mode, plug Lightning in, start up the cars movie and he’ll watch with you. Commenting on himself throughout and providing extra giggles. Little Fox sat through the movie sharing popcorn with his best friend Lightning and loved every minute of it.
Overall The Ultimate Lightning McQueen is the most advanced RC car we’ve ever experienced, it’s difficult to put into words just how much he can do and how well he does it. So we’ll be filming a vlog to show you exactly what he’s all about!
