Since we began weaning I’ve admired the Stokke Tripp Trapp. An iconic Scandinavian high chair that promotes families eating together at the table. A sleek design, that looks modern, but actually holds it’s place through history. Developed in 1972 by Norwegian furniture designer Peter Opsvik. The Tripp Trapp has been bringing families together for centuries.
In anticipation of our own Tripp Trapp arriving I called home each day to see if a parcel had arrived. That excited over a high chair? What was I expecting? I had high hopes for this piece of furniture, I’d built up a great repertoire around what it was going to do for us. So I actually began to feel nervous when it did arrive. What if it wasn’t all I had dreamed of? What if the all singing all dancing high chair wasn’t so great? Well, I needn’t have worried.
We received the Stokke Tripp Trapp® Chair in Wheat Yellow – RRP £169. The Wheat Yellow Baby set – RRP £47. Beigh Harness – RRP £29 and Retro Cars Cushion – RRP £33.
The initial building of the chair should have been easy. Trying to build it with Taylor ‘helping’ wasn’t the best idea. As you can see from the video below, apologies for the poor quality! This lead to one fatal mistake. I tightened up the frame before realising it was meant to be loose for inserting the seat and foot plates. Baring this in mind it still took under 20 minutes to build, and that’s with a 1 year old climbing over everything.
We’ve been using the Tripp Trapp in the new spring shade of Wheat Yellow for four weeks now. And for four weeks Tails has sat up at the table with us for meal times, feeding himself and enjoying family time.
Before this Tails would sit in a ‘traditional’ style high chair away from the table and eat from the tray. He couldn’t interact with family at meal times as he couldn’t fit at the table. This lead to him having his meals at a different time, before the rest of us.
Using the Tripp Trapp means he now eats at the same time as everyone else and isn’t excluded. We’re able to eat our meal and leave him to enjoy his without him being sat away from us.
Watching the rest of the family eat has encouraged him to feed himself more. He’s become more independent and now prefers to feed himself. It’s perfect.
I’ve since ordered the Stokke Table Top mat to use with our Tripp Trapp, now I just need some more toddler friendly recipes! Do you have any favourite family meals in your house?
