Sponsored Post: In Case of Emergency

As the due date of our little one is creeping closer we’ve been preparing for what’s to come, not just in terms of having a tiny human whom shall rely upon us for absolutely everything, but also for the 9 months that we will essentially become a one income family. Before taking the big step of planning for a family we made sure we were more than financially stable, debt free, and ready. But we also needed to reassure ourselves that we had every eventuality covered.

So I finally did it, I took out my first ever credit card! It felt like a very ‘grown-up’ thing at the time, maybe not as much as knowing I’m going to be a mother but it was up there, my first ever form of credit – Not including my student loan which I always forget about –

What if the car were to break down? Or the washing machine? These are things I wouldn’t want to be withdrawing from our savings for but could be costly with one less full time salary.

I’ve never had reason to purchase anything on credit before and thankfully still don’t, but theirs something about that new shiny card that makes you want things, things you really don’t need! I’ll be keeping it in a safe place for if and when an emergency is to rear its ugly head but what do people deem to be an emergency these days?

For me it’s repairing items that truly have an impact on the running of your day to day life, but I know for some it’s things such as ridiculously overpriced designer shoes or luxury handbags. Are these purchases worthy of flashing the plastic, and does the cost of happiness trump domestic repairs?

Would you use a credit card to indulge in some not so necessary treats for yourself or is it strictly for those times when you have no other option?

I say mine is for when a real emergency may occur but only time shall tell… Oh look at all the pretty things I could buy!
