Bubbaroo Baby Sleep Diary Week #3

Since our last update Taylor’s sleeping habits have been moving from strength to strength and our routine is really starting to take shape. Aside from the odd evening of waking once or twice and a few disturbances I think it’s been a good week. Our baby is sleeping through the night, every night, and he’s not being breastfed to sleep!

Night #1 – Tonight Taylor has gone to bed brilliantly, he self settled within minutes leaving me to enjoy a film night with Daddy. I thought he was going to wake when a loud cry came through the monitor but he didn’t actually wake up. Perfect.

Night #2 – Tonight we had the in-laws around for dinner, they didn’t arrive until mid-way though our bedtime routine. I was upstairs with Taylor winding down before taking him to his room for a feed when Grandma appeared our of nowhere. This of course caused some confusion for Taylor meaning whilst everyone sat down to eat I was up and down trying to settle him. It’s safe to say I wasn’t best pleased but did eventually get him to settle. He woke again at 3:00am and was fed before waking for the day at 6:45am.

Night #3 – Tonight has been another successful one, we had TWO day time naps and undisturbed night time sleep. I’m beginning to really enjoy having extra time in the evenings to do the things I want and feeling refreshed throughout the day.

Night #4 – Tonight I was a bad mummy and broke all rules of the routine we’ve worked so hard to achieve. On Wednesdays I have work as I ease back in preparation for my full time return. Saying goodbye to Taylor at 7:30am and not seeing him until 6:00pm makes it difficult to come home give him his dinner then put him to bed. It feels like I don’t see him! Moments into his pre-bed time feed he was fast asleep, we’re not breastfeeding to sleep anymore but he must have been tired. I then continued to hold him. I should have put him in his cot and left the room but I stayed there for 30 minutes just holding him before placing him in his cot already asleep. He woke an hour later! Hopefully this won’t disturb our routine. I won’t lie though, I enjoyed every minute of those sleepy baby cuddles.

Night #5 – This evening Taylor went to sleep without any trouble and was placed in his cot awake at 7:10pm after having a short feed. He did start to cry 30 minutes later having not yet been to sleep properly. I proceeded to enter his room, gave him a cuddle and put him back. He’s not stirred since and it’s now 23:13. Fingers crossed we have another good night.

When we entered into this and I set my main priority to be the issue of breastfeeding to sleep I had no idea how relieved I would feel when things started to change. Knowing that their is the possibility Taylor might be able to have somebody else put him to bed is truly amazing. The biggest test of all will be when he isn’t having any breastfeeding at all before bed and tonight Grandma will be with him at bed time as I won’t be here. I’ll be leaving a bed time bottle of expressed milk instead. I’m both nervous and excited to see how it goes for them.

Sticking to routine is so so hard at times! Looks like your doing an amazing job! Well done!

  • His setting in very well and you’re doing a fantastic job. Keep it up and I know the hard of getting him into a routine or us getting into a routine

I think I would be totally hopeless at sticking with a routine, it sounds like you are doing a fab job x

  • Glad to hear the routine is working excluding the few hiccups. Well done you.

  • So glad to hear that the routine is working well. I’m sure once in a while, having an extra cuddle wont hurt 🙂

  • Taylor is adorable! It sounds like you have a really wonderful routine in the works right now. It’s hard to stop breastfeeding them to sleep but once that new routine is settled it really is a relief x

Oh no once your trying to get into a routine its hard when something messes that up. I can understand your frustration with the in laws turing up right in the middle of bed time.

  • We did some sleep training around the age of one and it was the best
thing we ever did! It was hard for a few nights, but it set us on a
really good routine, whereas before that, we didn’t really have one.
Now, a few months on, our bedtime routine is lovely and very calm. We’re
also calm – knowing that she is going to go down. It’s great – I hope
    it stays like this!!
