Becoming a cloth bum with Baba+Boo Cloth Nappies

Since preparing our Baba+Boo Cloth Nappies to use we’ve had a mixed experience. Which I think you can expect from such a big change.

Following advice from the fantastic team at Baba+Boo we decided to start slow and work with one nappy at a time. Just one cloth nappy a day to ease us in.

A few months on I’ve got used to the ‘messy’ and practical sides of using cloth, it’s not as bad as I had anticipated!

We still aren’t full time users for many reasons. We don’t have enough nappies for that just yet, and need to build a ‘stash’. That’s what the cloth bum mums call their collections. Also, not everyone has adapted to the change as as I have. It’s not something you can convince other care-givers to take on if they don’t want to.

I’ve found Baba+Boo easy enough to use so far, there are a lot of poppers to work your way around. Which can be daunting at first glance. Once you know the best fit for your baby you just sort of remember which poppers your setting yourself up on and do it. A bit like riding a bicycle, it becomes automatic.

We had a few leaks and advised to ‘boost’. Which means using both of the microfiber inserts, instead of just the one. This made the nappies a lot chunkier but far more absorbent and saw us experience less leaks. Taylor’s legs are skinny so unless the fit is spot on, you can expect the odd trickle down his leg.
I’m also using the disposable liners to catch the ‘mess’ which I think is a huge help. I can’t imagine scooping it myself. I’ve yet to be brave enough to venture outside using cloth, maybe that’s a confidence thing. There haven’t been many leaks and it would most likely go well. Heck, I’ve had some extreme public poonami’s  in disposables as it is, what am I scared of?
Overall I’ve been enjoying the experience, I’m not ready to be a full time cloth bum mum just yet. But it is something I’d like to achieve.

Next mission – Going cloth outdoors!…

Do you use cloth nappies, if so tell us what you love about them and share any tips!
