When Taylor was a newborn I never used any form of nursing pillow to rest him against, he was so small and light it was easy to cradle him in one arm whilst sitting up in bed or on the sofa.
At the time of taking these pictures and beginning our testing we had been breastfeeding for 10 and a half months, now 13 months, the bigger he gets the harder I find it to sit with him against me for prolonged periods of time.
We were sent the Original Nursing Pillow from PregnancyPillows.net, I couldn’t wait to see if this would make a difference to the position and comfort when breastfeeding.
The key points of having a nursing Pillow are the following –
- Supports the baby correctly during feeding time
- Can be used all the way from the very early stages of pregnancy right through to the crawling period
- Eases the back pressure during the latter stages of pregnancy
- Relieves pressure on your arms while feeding
This pillow does exactly what it claims to do, the cover is also lined with a lavender aroma which is lovely, it’s easy to remove and pop into the wash too.
I used this pillow every day when feeding Taylor and it helped my back and stomach so much! It’s also perfect to use for tummy time, learning to sit and using a bottle when feeding expressed milk.
It is not advised that you use nursing pillows to prop babies up for sleeping especially newborns who cannot support their own head. Once they’re able to sit unsupported and jump all over you though, well then it’s fine, but you’ll struggle to keep them still long enough 😉
Overall I love this pillow, it’s become one of those items I wish I’d had from the start, then maybe I wouldn’t have spent weeks in pain from supporting him. We still use it now whilst he crawls around on our bed or the floor. It’s also great for mums & dads whilst sitting up reading/blogging in bed!
The Original Nursing Pillow can be purchased from PregnancyPillows.net for the RRP of £20.
