5 ways to brighten your home this summer

If you’re looking to make changes to your home, declutter and detox then we’re here to help. Light, bright, and minimalistic styles are currently what’s hot. In a world of people striving for that Pinterest perfect, insta-worthy home. It’s all about white walls and open spaces.

That’s not a problem for us right now. Simply because we haven’t gotten around to painting anything since moving. We’re letting the walls ‘breathe’ and rightly so, cracks are popping up everywhere!

Here are our 5 ways to brighten your home and take you one step closer to achieving that on trend look.

1. White walls –
As I mentioned before clean white walls are a must. Rooms appear cleaner and feel more open. If you have children be sure to choose something that wipes clean like this Dulux paint. White walls can take some maintenance to keep white with little hands around!

2. Declutter –
Removing anything unnecessary and having fewer items on show. Giving your room a minimalistic feel by having less on show. As the saying goes, tidy house tidy mind.

3. Create open spaces –
Where possible create open spaces that let light in. If you’re thinking big and renovating your home thinking large windows or a triple sliding glass door. Let the light in wherever possible.

4. Storage –
This goes hand in hand with decluttering. If you’re taking things off of display you need a place to keep the items you still need but don’t want to show. Invest in some good storage that fits in with your decor. We use IKEA kallax, you don’t have to completely minimalise what you own but you don’t always have to see it. A must have if you have children and need to stash toys away!

5. Daylight bulbs –
If your rooms are dark and extra windows aren’t an option try daylight bulbs. They give more natural light rather than the yellow tones most bulbs have. We use Philips Hue as they offer many colour options.

These are just a few ideas on how you can brighten your home this season. We’re sure there are more ways to achieve this and will be on the lookout for your top tips!
